Cook Street

This renovation involved the addition of a 1st floor extension to the rear of a very nice cottage in Rozelle, Sydney.

Although not a large extension, it featured a new study, main bedroom with ensuite and a bright airy link-way knitting both rooms together from the top of the staircase.

Clever use was made of the original roof space by incorporating a built-in cupboard/storage area off the main bedroom.

The ground floor kitchen remained and was spruced up with new doors and re-polished concrete floor. The design mirror imaged the ground floor footprint allowing views of the courtyard to be maintained from all rooms in the new addition.

Landscaping works were relatively minor and featured new turf and a sandstone retaining wall, extending from the courtyard to the rear of the property.

The Architect Raymond Panetta did an excellent job integrating this extension into the existing dwelling and by making use of some clever design work involving various angles and floor levels, gave the Buildridge team the opportunity of turning this very interesting design into a feature that the owners are extremely happy with.

One of the challenges came in the form of space. As the block was very small, the only access was by a side passage less than two metres wide. All materials, tools and equipment had to be stored and passed down this narrow passage. Scaffolding was also erected along this passage for the majority of the project which also restricted access. This was overcome to a large degree by scheduling the arrival and quantity of materials at strategic points of the project.

All rubbish was disposed of immediately using our own truck and the entire top floor was constructed without any materials or rubbish extending beyond the property boundary.

Another challenge involved the construction of the 2nd storey floor. Varying floor levels integrating the staircases posed a structural challenge, which was overcome by some deep thinking and input from the architect and structural engineer. The design was all part of allowing maximum views to be obtained from all locations of the extension, which ended in a brilliant result.

The finished product blended beautifully with the existing residence and has acheived its aim of providing more room for the family, capturing views of the city not previously possible and adding value to the property.

Completed January 2012.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with James and the BuildRidge team on the renovation of our home. From the moment we met James we were impressed with his professionalism and inclusive customer service approach. James provided the perfect level of detail in his quotation, enabling us to have frank and informed discussions throughout the negotiation process.

Once the build commenced we were not disappointed. James remained involved in the initial stages, eventually handing over to his foreman, Mitchell. Mitch ran the jobsite with precision, ensuring we were regularly updated with regard to the progress and giving us ample opportunity to make any necessary decisions.

As we lived on the site during the build, both James and Mitch were conscious of our comfort at all times, making every effort to ensure that were were not inconvenienced. A high level of respect and professionalism was maintained throughout the build both by the BuildRidge and their subcontractors.

The quality of workmanship is second to none, with all visitors to our home during the build commenting on how ‘neat’ the work and jobsite was. This quality has meant that the BuildRidge team has brought to life the detail of the design and exceeded our expectations with the final product.

Ultimately the build was completed on time, on budget and to the highest standard. We would be pleased to recommend BuildRidge to our family and friends – and in fact have already done so.
